Alissa Ramsay is a dynamic, driven, goal setting dynamo! She’s working with franchisors on revenue generating marketing campaigns. She’s also a Certified Franchising Executive, a CFE, which is a study program Alissa took to get qualified in the industry.
Alissa recommends the IFA Leadership Conference which starts right before the IFA Convention. This year’s convention is in Las Vegas in late January 2017.
Alissa recommends defining success before you start anything: put up a poster with your measures of success on it, then tick them off as you go. You can do this with employees too – help them set goals of what they want to achieve in the next year or two and help them hit those goals – what a fantastic way to engage your employees!
Alissa put together a business called Average to Art over 6 years from 2003 to 2009. A fully systematized business, she poured her heart & soul into it, but was ultimately forced to let it go after she experienced an illness which took her out of action.
Her mentor in her early years was her Dad. Alissa recommended two books that her Dad had sent her: The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber, and Swim with the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive by Harvey Mackay.
The two most exciting developments recently are emerging brands (always exciting!) and the new program by Northwood University where they offer a degree in Franchise Management.
Alissa’s advice to business owners is to:
- Embed a culture of care, curiosity and support from Day 1
- Set goals
- Define success
- Trust your gut
- Hire people with work ethic and drive
Alissa recommends the IFA’s website, Franchise Times and Franchise World as great sources of information in the industry.
